This monumental work sites Katharina Grosse’s explosive painted color in seven episodes along the varied environment of a five-mile stretch of railroad in Philadelphia-- marking a journey on and between its elemental rubble, eruptions of wild nature, decaying relics of infrastructure, and buildings both developed and in ruins. Conceived by Grosse and Mural Arts as a choreographed experiencefor train riders, psychylustro reimagines both the experience of art and the urban environment for the thousands of travelers and commuters who pass by this cityscape transformed by Grosse’s intervention into a large-scale urban earthwork and landscape painting in real time and space.
